Repair Terms & Cancellation Policy

Last updated: 10 September 2026

These terms apply when you ask Repair My Specs to assess or repair your glasses or sunglasses. Please read them before approving a repair.

1. Who we are

Repair My Specs is operated by Sunil Varma, a sole trader trading as Repair My Specs.

Correspondence address: 79 Bourton Road, Banbury OX16 2DL

Email: info@repairmyspecs.co.uk

Website: https://www.repairmyspecs.co.uk/

In these terms, “we”, “us” and “our” mean Sunil Varma trading as Repair My Specs. “You” and “your” mean the customer purchasing the repair service.

2. Our repair service

We provide postal repair and refurbishment services for spectacle and sunglasses frames within the United Kingdom.

At launch, we repair frames only. We do not replace prescription or non-prescription lenses. We may decline any job that is outside our current services or that we reasonably believe cannot be repaired safely or satisfactorily.

A repair is intended to restore suitable function and improve the usable condition of the frame. It does not make an older or damaged frame new. The repaired area may remain visible, and the frame may not look, feel or align exactly as it did when originally manufactured.

3. Who can place an order

You must be at least 18 years old and have the legal right to authorise work on the glasses you send to us.

Our service is currently available only to customers with a delivery address in the United Kingdom.

4. Photographs and initial assessment

You should first submit clear photographs and the requested information through our website or by email. Please include photographs of the complete frame, both sides of the damage and any detached pieces.

Any price or repair opinion given from photographs is an initial estimate only. Photographs may not reveal hidden damage, previous repairs, brittle material, corrosion, missing parts or damage beneath coatings.

We can confirm the repair method and final price only after physically inspecting the glasses.

Submitting an enquiry or receiving an initial estimate does not oblige you or us to proceed.

5. Sending your glasses to us

Please wait until we invite you to send your glasses and provide the correct postal details or job reference.

You are responsible for packing the glasses securely, including all loose pieces. We recommend using a rigid box or hard case with suitable protective material and a tracked postal service with compensation appropriate to the value of the item.

You are responsible for the glasses until they are delivered to us. If they are lost or damaged while being sent to us using a postal or courier service you arranged, you must make any claim against that provider. We will provide reasonable information in our possession to assist with a claim.

Please do not send cases, cloths or other accessories unless we ask for them. We are not responsible for unsolicited accessories except where the law requires otherwise.

6. Inspection, final quote and formation of the contract

After receiving the glasses, we will inspect them and confirm:

  • whether we believe the repair is suitable;

  • the work we propose to carry out;

  • the final price;

  • any important limitations or likely visible results; and

  • the estimated timescale.

If the final price or proposed work differs from the photographic estimate, we will explain the change. We will not begin repair work until you expressly approve the final quote.

The contract between you and us is formed when we send the final quote and receive your clear acceptance of it. We will confirm the contract in an email or another form that you can save.

If you do not approve the quote, we will not carry out the repair and will return the glasses to you without charging for the assessment or standard return postage.

7. Your request for work to start during the cancellation period

As this is a distance contract for a service, you will normally have a legal right to cancel for 14 days after the contract is formed. Details are in section 15.

We will not start the repair during that 14-day period unless you expressly ask us to do so. When accepting the final quote, you will be asked to agree to the following:

I expressly request Repair My Specs to begin the repair service before my 14-day cancellation period has ended. I understand that if I cancel after work has begun, I must pay a reasonable amount for work completed up to cancellation. If the agreed service is fully completed within the cancellation period, I acknowledge that I will lose my right to cancel once it has been fully performed.

If you do not give this express request, we will wait until the cancellation period has ended before starting work.

8. Repair work and replacement parts

We will perform the agreed repair with reasonable care and skill.

Where replacement parts are required, we may use new parts or suitable matching parts with your approval. Unless we specifically confirm otherwise in writing, we do not guarantee that parts will be made by the original frame manufacturer or provide an exact match in colour, finish, shape or age.

If we discover additional damage or find that different work is required after starting, we will pause where reasonably possible and ask for your approval before carrying out additional chargeable work.

9. Pre-existing damage and repair limitations

Glasses can become fragile through age, wear, corrosion, heat, previous adjustment, manufacturing weaknesses or earlier repairs. A break may also release tension elsewhere in the frame.

We are not responsible for pre-existing damage or for an unrelated part failing merely because it was already worn, brittle or damaged. However, this does not exclude responsibility where we fail to use reasonable care and skill or where the law otherwise makes us responsible.

We will take reasonable care around the lenses, coatings and frame finish. Existing scratches, crazing, chips, coating damage or optical defects are not corrected by a frame repair. If the lenses are already damaged or at particular risk, we may decline the job or discuss that risk with you before proceeding.

Please tell us before accepting the quote if the frame has unusual financial, vintage, collectible or sentimental importance. We may ask for evidence of its value, agree special handling arrangements or decline the repair.

10. Price and VAT

Website prices described as “from” prices are starting prices and are not final quotations.

Your final quote will show the total price for the agreed repair and any optional delivery upgrade or agreed replacement parts. Repair My Specs is not currently registered for VAT, so VAT is not added to the price.

We will not charge more than the accepted final quote unless you expressly approve additional work or costs.

11. Unsuccessful repairs

Although we assess each job carefully, we cannot guarantee that every attempted repair will succeed.

If we cannot complete the agreed repair successfully:

  • you will not be charged for the unsuccessful repair;

  • we will tell you what happened; and

  • we will return the glasses using our standard return service without charging you for that postage.

This does not affect your rights if the lack of success resulted from our failure to use reasonable care and skill.

12. Payment

We will send an invoice and secure Wix payment link after the agreed repair has been completed. Payment is due within seven days of the invoice date.

We will dispatch the glasses only after receiving cleared payment in full, except where these terms or the law require us to return them without payment.

If you believe the invoice is incorrect, contact us promptly at info@repairmyspecs.co.uk. Raising a genuine dispute does not remove your responsibility to pay any amount that is not disputed.

13. Unpaid or unclaimed glasses

If payment remains outstanding, we will contact you using the details provided with the order. We will hold the glasses for at least 90 days after the payment due date.

If they remain unpaid or unclaimed, we may send you a formal written notice explaining what you must do, the deadline for doing it and what may happen to the glasses. After giving any notice required by law and a reasonable final opportunity to pay and collect them, we may exercise the rights available to us under applicable law, which may include selling or otherwise disposing of the glasses. Where required, we will account to you for any sale proceeds after deducting the amount lawfully owed and reasonable sale costs.

We will not treat the glasses as abandoned or dispose of them automatically merely because 90 days have passed.

14. Return delivery

Our quoted service includes standard tracked return delivery unless the final quote states otherwise. You may choose Special Delivery for the additional price displayed or quoted.

We will send the glasses to the UK delivery address you provide. You must check that the address is complete and correct before dispatch. Tell us immediately if it changes.

We are responsible for the glasses during the return delivery until they are delivered to you or to a person or place you have authorised, subject to applicable consumer law. If a returned parcel is delayed, lost or visibly damaged, contact us promptly so that we can investigate with the delivery provider.

Delivery estimates are not guarantees where delay is caused by events outside our reasonable control. If a significant delay occurs, we will contact you and explain the available options.

15. Your right to cancel

You may cancel the repair contract without giving a reason within 14 days beginning on the day after the contract is formed, as described in section 6.

To cancel, send a clear statement to:

Email: info@repairmyspecs.co.uk
Post: Repair My Specs, 79 Bourton Road, Banbury OX16 2DL

You may use the model cancellation form at the end of these terms, but you do not have to use it. Your cancellation is effective if you send it before the cancellation period expires.

If you cancel before repair work begins, you will not be charged for the repair and we will return the glasses using standard return delivery without charge.

If you expressly asked us to begin during the cancellation period and then cancel before the service is completed, you must pay a reasonable proportion of the agreed price for the work performed up to the time you told us to cancel. We will explain how that amount was calculated.

If, following your express request, we fully complete the agreed service during the cancellation period, your cancellation right ends once the service has been fully performed, provided you also acknowledged that consequence when asking us to begin.

Nothing in this section affects your rights where services are faulty, not as described or not performed with reasonable care and skill.

16. Six-month workmanship guarantee

In addition to your legal rights, we provide a six-month workmanship guarantee covering the specific area repaired. The guarantee begins on the date we complete the repair.

If you believe the repaired area has failed because of our workmanship, contact us promptly and provide photographs and the original job reference. We may need you to return the glasses for inspection.

If the guarantee applies, we will choose an appropriate remedy, normally repeating the repair without charge. If a repeat repair is impossible or inappropriate, we will offer another remedy consistent with your legal rights.

The guarantee does not cover:

  • new accidental or impact damage;

  • misuse, neglect or unauthorised alteration;

  • ordinary wear and tear;

  • failure of a different or previously damaged part;

  • inherent brittleness, corrosion or material deterioration not caused by our work;

  • damage caused by another repairer or adjustment after our repair; or

  • lenses, coatings or optical performance, except where damage was caused by our failure to use reasonable care and skill.

This guarantee is additional to, and does not replace or reduce, your statutory consumer rights.

17. If there is a problem with the service

Please inspect the glasses after delivery and contact us as soon as reasonably possible if you believe there is a problem. Include your job reference, an explanation and clear photographs where possible.

UK consumer law requires services to be provided with reasonable care and skill, in accordance with agreed information and, where no time or price has been fixed, within a reasonable time and for a reasonable charge. Depending on the circumstances, you may have rights including repeat performance or an appropriate price reduction.

Nothing in these terms restricts rights or remedies that cannot lawfully be excluded.

18. Our responsibility to you

We do not exclude or limit responsibility where doing so would be unlawful, including responsibility for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or breach of rights that cannot be excluded under consumer law.

If we lose or damage your glasses while they are in our care, our responsibility will be assessed fairly in light of the circumstances and applicable law. Where replacement-value compensation is the appropriate remedy, it will normally be based on the reasonable current value of the frame immediately before the loss or damage, taking account of its age, condition and available evidence—not automatically the original retail price. This does not impose an unlawful limit or prevent you from exercising your statutory rights.

We are not responsible for losses that were not reasonably foreseeable when the contract was made, or for business losses where you entered the contract wholly as a consumer. We do not exclude responsibility for loss that we caused by failing to use reasonable care and skill.

19. Events outside our reasonable control

We are not responsible for delay or failure caused by events outside our reasonable control. Examples include serious postal disruption, severe weather, fire, flood, widespread systems failure or government restrictions.

We will contact you as soon as reasonably possible, take reasonable steps to reduce the effect and explain any revised timescale. Your legal rights relating to serious or continuing delay remain unaffected.

20. Personal information

We use personal information in accordance with our Privacy Policy. Our separate Cookie Policy explains how cookies and similar technologies are used on the website.

21. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. The terms applying to your repair will normally be those provided or made available when you accept the final quote. Any change required by law may apply as required by that law.

22. Governing law and disputes

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. If you live in another part of the United Kingdom, you retain any mandatory protections and may normally bring proceedings in the courts of the part of the UK where you live.

Please contact us first so that we can try to resolve any complaint directly:

Nothing in these terms prevents either party from using any court or dispute-resolution rights available by law.
